07:53 AM ET 01.11 | Rich Gannon has someone in mind for the opening in Chicago. [The] former NFL MVP is convinced the person who helped him reach that lofty height is the ideal candidate to replace Lovie Smith as Bears coach. ... Gannon isn't talking about offensive coordinators Bruce Arians, Mike McCoy or Rick Dennison. He's not even championing Jon Gruden, who resurrected Gannon's career in Oakland. Gannon is convinced the perfect person to elevate Jay Cutler's game to an perennial Pro Bowl level is a seemingly out-of-the-box Montreal Alouettes coach Marc Trestman. While Trestman's CFL background has made some question his candidacy, Gannon said he has the qualities to become the next Sean Payton or Mike McCarthy.

Trestman was a good OC in the NFL back in the day. Surprised he never got a shot at a head coaching job.

Watch for more quick-kicks on second down and the occasional Rouge, eh?

I might actually have to read up this Trestman guy. I don't recall the name.

I remember him... he was a coach under Jimmy Johnson at the U. QB coach with the Niners and Broncos (I believe).
Never heard his name as a "hot" one but one never knows.

They don't mention much about his CFL background, but he has coached the Montreal Alouettes to back-to-back Grey Cups. He was also the Raiders OC ten seasons ago when Gannon was named MVP and Oakland went to the Super Bowl.

First thy have to sign the guy up, then they got to score more points and who knows where they might wind up!

He was the OC in Oakland when Gannon won his MVP award back in 2002.

Yeah, it would be nice to read about a second interview for a prospective HC, instead of additions to the laundry list of coaches to whom they want to talk.

Rich Gannon has honored a debt to the man that probably made Gannon's career by making this recommendation. Now that is done and the Bears can get back to their painfully slow process of trying to find a new head coach to replace the guy that just went 10-6. And took the Bears to a Super Bowl.

Bring in a QB grooming HC and fix that line. If those two things get done, then Jay is out of excuses and will need to start performing at a much higher and consistent level.
