08:04 AM ET 01.11 | Will they stay or will they go? San Diego State decided to head to Dallas this weekend for the Big East meetings to hear what the financial possibilities are if the Aztecs stay with the original plan for 2013. ... Football and finances will determine the decision, but the hierarchy should seriously consider men's basketball in this equation. And, no offense to the Big West, but the Aztecs need to stay put. ... [Steve Fisher] can't say what his preference is, but it's obvious. He's being a good soldier. He is following the script. But he may need to let his voice be heard. Football drives the budget, but the men's basketball team has put the school back on the map. Now, San Diego State has a chance to stay in the MWC.

Just when you think they're dead, they manage to put together some combo of schools to keep breathing. They're like a zombie. You keep burying them and they keep coming back.

My hope is the b'ball breakaways win the rights to the "Big East" name.

I think that would be great.

SDSU should have already told the Mountain West they are coming back , because of the heavy expense of traveling across country and in the end might lose money on some trips.

Fisher is best thing to hit SDSU sense Coach Don Coryell back a few years. The Cal State schools are still orphans of the California sporting world. Like Dangerfield, they get no respect. Fisher is a great coach. Great coaches like Coryell and stay long, much less compete on the national level. Go ahead Fisher, stay in the the minor leagues for a couple of more years, then pull a Butler and do something crazy like join the Big 12. Makes more sense than the Big East.

San Diego State should keep its options open until the last moment for one good reason. The Mountain West doesn't want to retain San Diego State as an equal in this conference. The rumors persist that the offer to San Diego State was lo-balled, and it would take years to recover financially, should the Aztecs take this offer. Also, enough of the conference schools in the Mountain West have said that they do not want the Aztecs back in the Mountain West. The rule calls for 75% of the MW schools to vote for San Diego State to be re-admitted to the MWC. This only leaves two options should this occur, and the first would be playing football in the Big East in 2013. The second would be to play football as an independent. In either case San Diego State would play all other sports besides football in the Big West. This why an early decision will not come before January 31, 2013, when the offer from the Mountain West expires. My support as a season ticket holder, and as an Alumni member at San Diego State, will always be in what the President, AD, and what powers have decision-making capability stipulate is best for athletics, and the institution as a whole.

SDSU is not being low balled they are being offered the same deal as the rest of the conference (except Boise St). They also would not have a exit fee for the Big East because of a clause in their contract requiring a 2nd team east of the Rockies. So how would they have to recover financially??? The only thing they are not being offered is the special deal Boise St was regarding some of the TV rights and now that Boise St is staying it is not necessary to offer that to SDSU to make the MWC competitive with they will get from the Big East/Big West.
