05:45 PM ET 01.11 | Paul George had his national coming-out party on Tuesday, scoring 24 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and getting six steals in a five-point win over the New York Knicks on TNT. It was enough for coach Frank Vogel to suggest that George should be an all-star. "He's the leading scorer on the fourth-best team in the NBA and I think everyone has to ask the question, if Bruce Bowen was averaging 17 points a game and leading his team in scoring, would he be an All-Star every year?" Vogel said, referencing George's excellent defense in addition to his scoring.

OK so who do you take off the list? Lebron? Melo? The kid can play no doubt, but I wouldn't venture to call him an elite player at this moment.

Whoa -- those are the only choices ... Lebron/Melo or George.

I thought JR Smith was an All-Star ?

Naw not in my book JR isnt but you never know with these votes. Now Josh Smith might indeed be in that conversation. I don't know how many more slots there are for forwards now since they removed the center position now.

QUOTE(#6):

Melo isn't an elite player. He's a scorer and nothing more. His passing stinks, his defense is even worse, he rebounds like a guard, he requires the ball in his hands to even contribute. I'd take George and George is younger. George plays defense. George does more than just shoot. Speaking of the Knicks, how's the Bull sandwich tonight? NY is coming back to earth. The Nets will pass them in a couple of weeks.

If no one can guard you id call you elite regardless of anything else. Plain and simple. Not a fan of his but the guy rebounds well and isnt just a scorer. He is a TOP TIER scorer. Behind only Kevin Durant at this point. I think the pacers would trade george for melo 1000% of the time if the knicks were that stupid

QUOTE(#9):

Just scoring needs a better explanation. He's a shooter. Shooters score. But Melo gives up as much as he scores. So it's a wash. If a guy scores 30 and gives up 35, is he better than a guy who scores 18 and gives up 10? And that doesn't even consider things like rebounding, assists, and the intangibles. Melo is NOTHING but a shooter. Needs the ball in his hands to be successful and doesn't contribute ANYTHING else to the winning effort.

I can honestly say i never saw carmelo give up 30 or even 20 pts on a consistent basis and furthermore he averages 30 and 7 which is way better than what Paul George is doing and oh yea Melo guard pfs too and holds them under 20 points. So **** when u are deciding to hate.

Are we really having this conversation comparing these two players? One has career averages of 10.1 and 4rebs a game, 1 assist...and the other is a lock all star- elite caliber player with averages of 18.4 pts and 8 rebs a game? Dude what the hell are you talking about? Shut up and sit down somewhere you damn fool. No GM in the league rides with your opinion of Melo. Did Melo bang your girlfriend on a road trip or something?

Oh, and some guys CAN guard Melo. LeBron shuts him down like a school boy.

Lebron isn't a normal person, We all have seen him guard positions 1-5....and well. But Paul couldn't step Melo even if he poisoned his water bottle seconds before the tip off. Melo would get 20 before the effects kicked in lol
