Chiefs CEO: There's no clear cut No. 1 QB

06:48 PM ET 01.11 | The Kansas City Chiefs have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft but despite their needs at the QB position, a QB might not be the pick. Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt was on 610 Sports Radio this morning and when he was asked about the QB position and the draft, Hunt mentioned that there may not be a clear choice. "There's not a clearcut QB, I think that you take at that position this year, necessarily." Now before you all start to panic, I think Hunt is correct. For instance, last season, Andrew Luck was the clear choice and if he wasn't it was only because Robert Griffin III was so good that the pick could have maybe gone to him. As of right now, there is no slam dunk pick at the QB position. Most seem to agree that West Virginia's Geno Smith is one of the best prospects but he doesn't seem to be as sure as a pick as Andrew Luck.

There's an understatement which borders on the absurd.
Heading into the 2012 Draft (and the 2011 Draft) Andrew Luck was widely acclaimed as the best quarterback prospect since Peyton Manning. Not too many players are going to be "as sure as a pick" as that.

I see the Chiefs taking the OT from Texas A &M, if they don't trade back from the pick.

What about that Lacy guy from Alabama. He's a beast.

They can turn that pick into a few solid players by doing that. I think that's what ends up happening.

He is.
But then so is every runningback that Nick Saban produces... until they reach the NFL.

Is there any player another team would be wanting desperately to acquire, enough so they'd be willing to trade with the Chiefs?

No. They are stuck with that pick so they may as well use it. Regardless, there is NO QB worth the number one pick this year. Perhaps not even a top 10 or 15 pick.

Okay, that's what I thought.

There's not. But with the combination of team needs and the rookie salary cap, I wouldn't be surprised to see quarterbacks go much earlier than what draft analysts claim they are "worth".

There needs to be a driving need for someone to have the first pick in order to turn this into a lot of value. Is there really a total blue chip player this year that will have teams unloading a lot of players or picks to get the number one pick?

Maybe the owner is thinking about Flynn in a trade or someone else with experience and passing on a QB. I mean your not going to pick a QB in the first unless the guy has pedigree and I see no one of Luck or RG III's caliber. Wilson was picked in the third so in a way he screwed a lot of guys coming out this year. If I'm an owner I got to be thinking why pay the big bucks unless its a Luck. Wait and get someone later and save the money.
