Celtics putting Paul Pierce trade on hold?

09:41 AM ET 01.12 | With the Celtics playing better since Avery Bradley returned from injury, president Danny Ainge once again finds himself trying to determine whether the remnants of the 2007-08 championship team have enough to make one more run. Some rival executives believe the Celtics recently waived Jarvis Varnado and Kris Joseph to create roster flexibility for a potential trade. If Ainge decides to stand pat, a deal involving Paul Pierce -- which would mark the true end of the Big Three era -- could be re-examined around the draft or during free agency.

The Lakers would be considering Kobe trades right now if he didn't have a no-trade clause. You do what you have to do to make your team better. If somebody calls, you listen

What is the point of a Pierce trade? The Celtics won't get back a better player. Or a high draft pick. Ainge is merely desperate as it becomes clear he is a lousy GM who had one fortunate trade - thanks to Kevin McHale.
On the other hand I can't blame Pierce if he wants out to play for a contender.

RT @RoyceWebb: Only 2 teams haven't won in 2013: Dwight Howard's old team and his new team
is that not ironic that MMA's 2 teams have not won yet in 2013? LOL - thats what you call karma

Ray Allen left, why? Who really cares? He's gone and if he left because his little feeling were hurt because they considered trading him, good riddance! Its professional sports and GM's are obliged to consider and make all moves they believe will make their team better. So if Ray got his panties all bunched up because the Cs were going to move him - hey if the land of the big boys. Stay in Miami, who gives a rats ass?
Same applies to Paul Pierce, but by this point in his career I think Paul Pierce is enough of a professional to know the deal and accept whatever comes his way. I'd love to have the "Truth" finish his career with the Celtics but if Danny can improve the team by trading him - then see ya Paul - its been great.

Pierce won't get much interest from other teams. His best days are behind him.

DON'T YOU DARE TRADE THE TRUTH! Trade KG if you must but don't trade a guy who has been there for 15 years for a low 1st round pick because at best, that's all we can get.

a serious contender who needs a scorer would love to have him. he's not gonna be the best player on the floor like he used to be, but he can be a vital cog for a contender

this celtics squad isn't a championship contender. they just don't have enough. i think it makes some sense to rebuild around rondo. that probably means trading pierce or kg. those are the guys who could bring back assets.

That's what everyone said last year, give me a break.
Lets sit back and watch the season unfold. Boston is building up steam.

Even if I agreed with you, that Ray Allen even knew he was on the trading table reflects extremely poor execution on Ainge's part. And to get all the way to telling him in the locker room to not suit up, he's going to Minnesota, or some other out of the way place, only to have to ask him to suit up because the trade fell through -- it is THAT mickeymouse behavior that makes class acts like Ray Allen, or any free agent who might otherwise consider Boston, think again. And, like it or not, it is THAT behavior that has cost and will cost Boston any future title chances . . . as long as Ainge is GM.

Interestingly, Kobe makes the Lakers WORSE. The more he scores, the more they LOSE. If he could play more of a team game, which I think basketball is, then the selfish Lakers would have a better win-loss record this season. That's a fact.
