01:45 PM ET 01.12 | The Dallas Cowboys have shaken up the coaching staff by firing defensive coordinator Rob Ryan and running backs coach Skip Peete. Now, it looks like owner Jerry Jones is making a push for another change in Big D. According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Jones is pushing for head coach Jason Garrett to give up his play-calling duties. For Garrett, it doesn't end there. Mort adds that Jones will also attempt to get Garrett to fire his brother, John, who is the team's tight ends coach. John Garrett is reportedly calling around the league for some job interviews. Jones' motive for Garrett to give up his duties is unknown, but the Cowboys offense did sputter at the start of the season. There is also a belief that Jones could be getting Garrett to relinquish some of his power in order to set up a head coaching change. A name that continues to surface with Cowboys rumors is ESPN Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden.

It just gets better and better in Jason Garrett's world. I think just about any coach deserves better than this.
Gruden might eventually go back into coaching if the deal is right, but I don't think that having Jerry Jones in his business all the time would be a part of any deal Gruden takes seriously.

This latest....if true, destroys all hope for the fans, never mind the players. Hard to out do the Jets fiasco this year, but jerry is determined. Why didn't Jerry just clean house? Talk about emasculating Garrett....what a slap in the face.

...and as Mel said....why would any Coach, want to get involved in this mess?

I'd love to know what Jason Garrett really thinks about the Monte Kiffin hiring...

Garrett could save some dignity if he was to simply resign. Maybe a sympathetic coach gives him an assistant job so Garrett can keep food on the table for his family. It doesn't seem like it will end well... it's just a matter of how much longer it gets drawn-out.

Actually Jerry Jones is making good moves for once.
Rob Ryan had a mediocre defense at best but did not force turnovers or get sacks so bringing in Monte Kiffin was a nice move.
Parting ways with Skip Peete as Running Back's coach was another good move...we have not had a 1,000yd rusher since he has been here.
John Garrett is another good cut.
Now, Jason is being stripped of play calling...another great move. Jason Garrett is a solid head coach, he just needs to focus on doing that and let an offensive coordinator work on getting the most out of the team.

If he stays and lets JJ treat him this way he'll never have any future respect by players or by future employers. He needs to man up and quit..period.

I'm good with all the firings and Garrett needs a O coordinator to fix that lame offense. What we don't need is a seventy five year old coach, or anyone named Gruden. The day Gruden is hired is the last Dallas game I watch until he's gone and Jerry dies. Chuckie is a fraud and possibly the most obnoxious man since Howard Cosell.

Jason Garrett needs to preserve his self-respect and resign while there are still plenty of offensive coordinator openings around the league.
