Brian Burke's firing still a mystery

10:24 AM ET 01.13 | The press conferences are now over but the real mystery remains: No one will come out and say directly why Brian Burke was fired as general manager of the Maple Leafs. And just as importantly, no one will answer: Why now? They will hint around it. They will tell their stories, as much as they want you to know, which isn't much. Many times in his farewell press conference Saturday Burke explained his shocking dismissal with "I didn't win enough games." But when asked directly about what happened, he wouldn't go too far from his script. "The people that hired me, hired Brian Burke," he said. "Maybe they want someone who is a little more conventional. That's fine. I'm not changing how I do things. That's not possible. I'm Irish and I'm stubborn. I have to find someone who likes that brand I guess. I'm not changing how I operate."

Making fun of Burke and the Leafs has been an institution here for a long time and it will be sorely missed. Removing Burke from Leafs rants is like taking the icing off the cupcake, but, we've still got the cupcake. Leafs suck no matter who's driving the bus!

I think Burkie leaving does nothing to diminish the entertainment factor. It will be hilarious to watch Bell and Rogers argue over who's turn it is to sit in the owners chair. Less filling! Tastes great!! The Leafs never disappoint!!!!!!!!!!!

Speaking of Burkie, while potf won the Burke's firing pool, we still have to deal with the Leafs elimination one with a shorter season and a compressed conference-only schedule. Before the Butt-plug-imposed mess known as the lockout, we had the following entries based on an 82-game schedule ending on April 14. If I had to guess when that will take place, Swampy, I'd say around May 8.
And I stand corrected, the season will end April 27, not April 28 as stated in the first post (#11).

4- refused to front load contracts to wheel in the good free agents..then followed that up by signing guys like Komisarek and Connolly
5- his pi__ssy attitude with beat writers...seriously he reeks of a control freak
