Justin Tucker's 2OT practice kick was illegal

11:29 AM ET 01.13 | Moments before kicking a game-winning 47-yard field goal to send his team to the AFC championship, Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker took a practice kick on the field during a break in between the first and second overtime sessions in Denver. Turns out that taking on-field kicks is not an offense that brings a penalty. But, strangely, it's also not allowed. Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely tweeted something to that effect after the game. "It's actually against the NFL rules to kick a practice ball in overtime on the field. Had ref's tell me that twice this yr," he wrote. NFL officiating guru Mike Pereira confirmed that there is no penalty but said officials are instructed to not let kickers practice. "If it happens they're to tell him to get off the field," they wrote.

Hey look at poor David Akers. Right before the half he was trying to take some practice swings on the sideline in the net and he had to shoo a bunch a halftime dancers away from his practice area as they were practicing their dance steps. Maybe that is what he needed, some comic relief to take his mind off kicking. It worked he got over his drought of missing left. Plus the 49ers did the wise thing and made sure the ball was held by the spotter on the right hash mark, that is a simple way to cure the barely left syndrome.

I thought it was odd that the NFL let CB for the Seattle Seahawks / Richard Sherman to dance his way around a 4 game suspension. He admitted drinking from a bottle containing PED's, his first defense was he didn't know there was PED's then his lawyer found a way to declare the testing process invalid.
That's like saying; "Yes your honor I shot that person but I didn't know the gun was loaded", then your lawyer realizing that is probably not a good enough defense declares that it was the gun makers fault for having a hair trigger, and the dead persons fault for standing in the way of a gun barrel.
The NFL continues to make a Mockery of its own rules.

Well, at least we finally found a reason it wasn't Peyton's fault.
Our national nightmare is now over.

No comment about the botched pass defense on the part of the Broncos? Or the way too conservative play calling when the Broncos were trying to hold the ball and run out the clock? The game should have never gotten to overtime. Or Peyton Manning channeling his inner Brett Favre? It was a true come-from-ahead defeat.

NFL Refs to the two teams: " Golly, we're sure sorry we let this happen. *Next time* you two teams are facing each other for a chance to advance towards the Super Bowl, we *promise* to be more vigilant." Bring back the replacement Refs! Oh wait - those guys are working for the WWE - a *step up.*
