Plaxico predicts Giants win
Before ever setting foot here in the Valley of the Sun, Plaxico Burress let The Post - and thus the world - in on his prediction for who wins Super Bowl XVII. It sure ain't the Patriots. As he pulled his car up to the Giants Stadium tunnel to unload his bags, Burress yesterday morning was asked by The Post a direct question: Are you ready to make history? "You better believe it," the towering Giants receiver said. And then, as he entered the stadium and turned left toward the Giants locker room, Burress was asked for his prediction. Burress never hesitated, flatly stating "23-17." He didn't identify the winning team. He didn't have to.

Why do athletes guarantee wins in games? Especially big games.

i'm not counting out the G-men, but i think there's no chance of them holding the Pats to 17 pts.

See, one would expect most athletes to say that the OTHER team will win. "We gonna get our booties handed to us. We are so gonna lose." Or something.
Man, I hate news bits like this. Front Page Headlines: "Player expects to win if he competes!"

They want to go down in history like Broadway Joe. Unfortunately, they all wind up trying to kiss Suzy Kolber. Leave it to Plex the Flex Mouth to be the first one.

Guys.....I know it is kinda splitting hairs, but he did not "guarantee" a win he "predicted" a win, yes it is similar, but it's not the same. I can't wait till sunday, i am already excited.............LETS GO BIG BLUE

I enjoyed when the Cowboys were facing the Patriots when they asked Marcus Spears for his prediction and he said with a blank stare on his face "i think were going to lose 76 to 0"... that was the funniest reaction i heard to facing the undefeaded Pats this year...

They will win if they keep hitting Tom and they pass the ball.

I don't think that was a guarantee either, what are players supposed to say? It's a crazy question that reporters ask to stir up some kind of war of words between the teams.

What are players supose to do, go in to a game thinking they have no chance and cannot win...These guys did not get to be professional athletes by thinking they cannot get it done...jeesh...Ask Brady if he thinks his team will win....or any player or coach...these stories are duuumb...until somr plsyer says, " no way" and is serious about it, then it is in the top ten of stupid questions reporters ask...

And you wonder why the Steelers got rid of this idiot?
Did he predict he would drop a pass in end zone, that hits him right in the hands, and without any DB interference on the play too - like he did in the AFC Championship game vs the Pats his last year in Pittsburgh?
Did he predict he would rip ownership, his team, and his QB, to the media immediately after the loss too - like he did in the AFC Championship game vs the Pats his last year in Pittsburgh?
Did he predict he wouldn't be able to get any separation and get open too - like during his last CONTRACT year in Pittsburgh?
Did he predict he would spike a LIVE football during the game and let the other team fall on it - like he did in Pittsburgh?
Plexiglass ... just shut up!
Here's to hoping they jam about 4 dozen camera's in Plex's face after the loss like they did with our idiot safety Anthony Smith the last (and hopefully ONLY) time he predicted a win before a game!
