01:10 PM ET 01.13 | Despite proving to be a serviceable NFL starter, it appears that the Pittsburgh Steelers will be releasing guard Willie Colon during the offseason. The Steelers will be looking to revamp the offensive line for the 2013-14 season and Colon is expected to be a casualty. Knee injuries ended Colon's season and forced him to be placed on the injured reserve list. He is set to make $5.5 million next season. By releasing Colon, the Steelers will free up $1.9 million in cap space and will be able to inject more youth into the starting line up. Replacing Colon at left guard will be 2012 seventh-round pick Kelvin Beachum, who impressed the coaching staff down the stretch when he started the final five games of the season.

Sorry Willie but 4 years in a row ending up on IR......

Maybe they'll do like they have with Starks the last few years. Cut him and bring him back later when he's healthy at a low salary.

Of course proving and staying healthy is a hugh challenge for Willie!

It's Unimpolyment or the Football Field both are scary!!!!!

After thinking about this for a few seconds, I don't think the Steelers have to do any thing with Colon until they're ready to take him of IR. I'm not sure when he'll be recovered enough to remove from IR though.

I agree with the above comment, they can agree to a deal as they did with Max. This line has to get younger and really needs Pouncey to survive a full season. Pouncey has the chance to enter the HOF, but he will have to start playing like Gale Sayers!

Revised Headline: Steelers Flushing Colon.

4 years on the IR... at least he has made his money.

This is not so much of a surprise.

Nope. He can't stay healthy.

This idea has merit.

Once your Colon's gone...it's all downhill after that.

He can't help his name, don't make him the butt of your jokes. On the hole, he still has potential. Always showed good movement too.
