08:00 AM ET 01.14 | Matt Moore's days in a Miami uniform may be over after completing 11 of 19 passes for 131 yards on the season. [Moore] would love to find a team where he can compete to start and has relayed to the Dolphins that he is going to test the free agent market, barring an incredible offer from Miami. The Dolphins told Moore they want to keep him but have never given him a firm offer. If the Dolphins lose Moore, their free agent backup quarterback options include Jason Campbell, Brady Quinn, Tarvaris Jackson, Drew Stanton, Rex Grossman, Matt Leinart, Charlie Batch, Brian Hoyer and Bruce Gradkowski. Third-stringer Pat Devlin, a favorite of Joe Philbin, also could compete for the No. 2 job if Moore bolts.

Which is why - after "testing" the waters, he will find out that he is considered a solid #2.
Once that settles in, he should have some excellent choices.

He would be a solid option for any team looking for a backup QB.

Moore is a backup. If he gets a chance to compete somewhere else, that fact will be confirmed.

Why does the NFL continue to recycle the same old garbage backup QBs? He's the type of guy you "think" you want as a backup then he makes you scream when he does play as a starter..trust me, we saw this play out in Carolina.

They continue to do that because it's smart. We forget that NFL QB is one of the hardest jobs on the planet and that very few people are capable of it. When you find someone who you can trust to go out there and at least manage a game without hurting your chances, you go with him as your backup. You're right, it can backfire, but coaches have enough ulcer issues without having to put a green QB in when their top dog gets hurt.

This is the same old usual approach that rarely pans out..when is the last time a backup was good enough to REALLY win? Mark Rypien? Jeff Hostetler? I guess you could say Tom Brady but thats my point...cant just settle for "a guy" as a backup bc if he DOES have to play, you're screwed. I like how Harbaugh got Cap for his backup and even BAL has Tyrod Taylor as a backup. I applaud those coaches (brothers, ironically) for their decisions to go away from the "norm"...too many teams have been done in by a bad backup (ie. 2012 Bears)

Not a bad gig being a backup QB. Isn't that the most popular player when your starting QB is struggling?

What about the Jets or Jacksonville. Yes he's a great back-up like Shaun King just there are a few teams that still start back-ups
