Why Canes won't make room for Brissett

08:13 AM ET 01.14 | How times have changed at "The U." When UM coach Al Golden arrived on campus two years ago, Miami had only three scholarship quarterbacks (including the immortal Spencer Whipple) and Golden admitted being "scared to death as I go to sleep every night that you don't have the depth to get you through a season." Now, UM feels so good about quarterback that it quietly rejected recent overtures from the Gators' 2012 opening day starter. West Palm Beach Dwyer coach Jack Daniels said UM was the "top choice" of Jacoby Brissett, who is transferring from UF, but the Hurricanes informed him "they don't have room for him" because they have five quarterbacks on scholarship and a sixth (Kevin Olsen) arriving this summer.

Did Muschamp put restrictions on where he could sign?

The Canes probably don't want to give him a scholarship since he can't play this year. Maybe he should go D2 and then come back. Worked out well for Newton.

Duh, they'll have six QB's when the summer starts so its not that they "won't" as the misleading headline reads, there is no room. This is a non-story.

It wasn't that quiet. It was posted here pretty unquietly.

I don't think he did, at least I didn't see any mentioned in the articles I've read.

While I have not seen any ego issues from JB, the point you make about players needing to review a program's roster status prior to stating in the media "I am targeting X school" is valid.

Either this proves JB doesn't have a "handler", or the one he has suxes mightily.

"one he has suxes mightily."

His HS coach has brought up that he is a Heisman candidate for the next two years.

I don't think JB was a problem with the UF team. He could have easily divided the UF squad after not starting, clearly he did not. I truly wish him well.

Someone will give him a scholly. The kids is talented. He should check the Duke roster and call Cutcliffe to see if he's interested.

+1.

Plenty of guys would've been mouthing off and causing problems, he didn't go down that road and I think that says good things about the young man.

Honestly, I could see him doing well at one of the ACC schools, maybe NC St or somebody like that. Or he can do Blinn College and see what kind of bagman offers he can scrounge after a year.

I would doubt that's allowed.

it is very much allowed. sucks for the players but sometimes coaches won't release a player to a rival or in the same conference.

Given that their is an 85 scholarship limit (or less for some teams!), isn't 6 just a bit too many for one position? I know qb is the important position, but 4 shollys (with one of those red-shirting) seems to be enough.

He did what was best for the team during the season. He's a stand up guy.

However, it makes no sense to leave a school when you are the #2 QB to go to the school with 6 other QBs.

He needs to do his homework before announcing his 1st choice.
