'Highly unlikely' Pronger plays again

08:16 AM ET 01.14 | There's a very good chance we've seen the last of Chris Pronger as a player in the NHL. [Pronger], still the Flyers captain but likely not for long, is scheduled to visit Skate Zone today to see a doctor -- not begin a comeback. "Nothing's changed," general manager Paul Holmgren said. Out since last November with post-concussion syndrome, Pronger has no plans to skate or work out ... and he's told club officials that he won't do any interviews. Asked if he thinks there's a chance Pronger ever will play again, Holmgren said, "Down the road? I don't know. I guess you could say slight chance. I probably would classify it as highly unlikely." Pronger, 38, won't retire, though, because he's still owed about $19 million.

Ryan Kesler's leg approves of this.

Sad.

But if he is unable to play, the owners should have some kind of out here....like with Thomas...

For his family and in general, yes, sad.

I don't want to get back into the "karma" argument, but I hear this is having a real toll on his family, and hence, yes, very sad.

It's kinda fitting that his career would end from post concussion syndrome, no?

I got no love for the guy, but I don't wish harm on anyone. He's a Flyer for goodness sakes. ;) But for me to wish a lifetime of harm on a guy when he's got a family...nah, not my style.

I don't wish anything to him, he's a grown man and makes grown man choices. He make tons of money as a player, he played hard & fast with the rules throughout his career and got away with alot of it because of his status. For what it is, it's ironic that all that is catching up to him.

I don't disagree with most of what you said. But I am just not going to be someone who says: "Good, he is getting what he deserves." DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT SAYING ANYONE HERE IS SAYING THAT, but there are some out there who may.

We get it, you love the Flyers and have a Pronger jersey. It's duly noted.

I'm not a Pronger fan, but I don't wish career-ending injury on anybody. It's always sad when the decision to stop playing is caused by injury and not the player's own choice.

If somebody would just throw Holy Water on him you could watch him sizzle and disappear in a cloud of smoke. Not that I'm superstitious or anything. Worth a try maybe?

Marc Savard is another unfortunate example of this.

More time for pronging female reporters.

I have to say I find it gratifying and more than a little humbling to be in the presence of so many morally upstanding and perfect human beings as are represented on this board. Yep, no one posting here has ever made a mistake or done anything even the remostest bit questionable. It's so easy to judge others when we know our indiscretions are excusable. All this bs about his health issues being karma or "things catching up with him" is ridiculous to the extreme. Like there is a connection between his past behavior and getting a stick in the face. If past behavior is an indicator of present status what grand indiscretion did Marc Savard commit? And how to explain Ray Lewis's recent success.

If you don't like Pronger, fine. But please don't try to pretend his injury is some sort of divine punishment.
