Fox, Elway say they'd run kneel down play again

08:21 PM ET 01.14 | The Denver Broncos are one-and-done in the NFL playoffs, but it's not the fact that their season is over, it's how the season ended that has Broncos fans everywhere in a fit of rage. With more than 30 seconds left in the game and two timeouts, the Broncos elected to take a knee rather than try to go 45 yards to put Matt Prater in field goal range. While the move has drawn harsh criticism, Broncos head coach John Fox says that he'd do the same play again in a heartbeat. But on Sunday, when Matt Ryan and the Falcons drove down the field with the same amount of time left on the clock and the same amount of timeouts and they won the game, any argument Fox and Elway had instantly became invalid. No matter how you spin it, you don't throw almost $100 million at Peyton Manning to have him take a knee in the AFC Divisional Playoffs. If that was your strategy all along, perhaps the Broncos are better off with Tim Tebow because having the best quarterback to ever play the game take a knee in a situation he thrives in is just as stupid of an idea.

I'm sure they're saying it; I doubt they actually mean it.

So if Manning hadn't taken a knee, and had thrown the across-the-body interception in regulation, and Baltimore had subsequently scored, everyone in Denver would be screaming about how Manning didn't take a knee. And since when did anyone care what Donkey-Face says or thinks?

I would think that since they paid the big dinero for this living legend that it was expected that he would be the man you turned to when your D couldn't hold a lead, and you needed that big time player to make a big time play. If not, then they should have stayed with Tebow

I completely believe Fox would do it again. That's why he won't be winning the big game any time soon. He's just too conservative.

The odds of that happening at that location of the field, with the type of play they'd run with 30 seconds left are slim to none.

In related news John Fox would lose to the Ravens again... the guy is and has always been an AWFUL coach! Good luck to the team that gets Mike McCoy, enjoy two years of awful and another coaching search soon!

Call a play with straight-forward reads for the QB that aren't likely to result in an INT and take one shot down the field. If it fails, then take a knee. You went out and got a future HOF QB for situations like that.

They couldn't have had a better shot, the Ravens D was gassed and everyone seemed to know that except John Fox. The Ravens winning the toss was huge, by the time their D went back out they had regrouped and Ray had them pumped up again.

That's why I hate the "playing for OT" strategy: too much rests on a coin flip. Go for the throat in regulation.

But, Manning can't throw the ball down the field. That's why they took a knee. He can't make the throw.

All of this would be a moot point had Rahim Moore not forgotten how to play safety in an organized game of football.
Even my grandson asked what the hell he was doing - a high school senior who plays safety.

As I'm watching it I'm wondering where Moore thought they were going to throw the ball???
