Carroll meets with Redskins
Posted: Tuesday January 29, 2008 07:16AM ET
USC Coach Pete Carroll on Monday declined to address reports that he met with Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder about becoming the NFL team's coach. The NFL Network and the Associated Press said that Carroll met with Snyder in St. Louis following Joe Gibbs' resignation but that it had been mutually decided he would not be a candidate. Carroll has been mentioned as a candidate for NFL openings after each of the last six seasons at USC. He said before the Trojans' victory over Illinois in the Rose Bowl that he would not comment on reports or rumors about a possible return to the NFL. Carroll reportedly spoke with Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank while Carroll was on vacation in Hawaii this month. Last year, while vacationing in Costa Rica, Carroll interviewed with Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga.

No bias or agenda...I'm a Michigan man so I don't care...but it seems to me that this will help UCLA close the gap with USC in a couple of years. With Chow as the UCLA OC and Carroll interviewing (allegedly) for every NFL HC job you have to think that recruits have to start thinking that Snake Oil Pete is going to jump ship one of these days and the next USC coach will be someone on staff that might be a big drop off (like Coker was in Miami and Bobby Williams at Michigan State after Saban left).

Report Offensive CommentThe stroy is that HE IS NOT INTERESTED; that does NOT indicate jumping ship. The name is Pete, not Richard.

Report Offensive CommentHe would be insane to leave USC to go to work for a guy like Dan Snyder. He's a King as the coach of the Trojans.

Jabril - I think the "michigan man" only ment that IF Petey keeps "talking" to the NFL guys, the recruits "might" think he "could" "leave" some day.
Maybe you should "READ IT AGAIN" or hire an agent to help you understand it. I'm sure Reggie Bush could give you a few good names.

Report Offensive CommentI dont even know why he would wanna take an NFL job. Just look in the article at the vacations he's taking plus he lives in southern california, get's the best recruits, and probably his pick of the song girls, what else do you need from life? But for the sake of my UVA please leave before the first game of next season.

Report Offensive CommentHe isn't going anywhere. He's doing just enough to scare USC officials so that he gets everything he wants from the school.
PS Forever | 01/29/08, 10:05 AM
Report Offensive CommentHe may be talking to all these NFL types, but he's not going anywhere except to his agent's office to let him know what the "market rate" is next time they renegotiate his contract at USC.

Report Offensive CommentIt's not a good fit. He wont leave SC which is right now at the powerhouse level of college football and will be competing for the national title well into the future. Washington is ,,, well, somewhat lower down the chart in its respective league. What such talks can do, however, is get Old Petey some leverage with his SC bosses to make them realize what an asset he is (= $$$, etc).
Yes, the cheerleaders are choice.

Report Offensive CommentDear Mr. Mike Garrett,
You are the Athletic Director at the University of Southern California, a top-tier private institution known for having a surplus of financially well-endowed alumni and a healthy budget in the Athletic Department. With respect to collegiate sports, the faceman for the university and one of the biggest names in all of college coaching is out trying to get your attention. He would like more money. He deserves more money. The alumni want him to have more money. Let us give the man more money.
Thanks,
An '04 Alum

Report Offensive CommentSI obviously wants to influence -- assist -- UCLA and other schools' recruitment by running all these 'Carroll is leaving' bogus stories -- all this does is raise doubt in the minds of those high school players who want to have Carroll as coach. Not fair, not ethical, unless this hidden agenda is disclosed.
silverblack23 | 01/29/08, 12:28 PM
Report Offensive Commentsb23: The only "obvious" here is that SI wants readers for their articles and, consequently, their advertising. They'll print whatever they feel will accomplish that. What is not obvious is why they would want to "assist" UCLA's recruiting over SC's....

As we have found out, there are a few teams who beat SC with PC. I think one of those teams beat your PC with a Mac (k).
