Gay sweepstakes too rich for Raptors

07:54 AM ET 01.15 | Rudy Gay is already on record as saying he'll be comfortable if he's moved, but where might he land? [According] to a highly-placed source, any chance of the Raptors picking up [Gay] in a trade are diminishing rapidly and it's less and less likely something will happen. The reason? The asking price is far too high. ... [The] players most coveted include the likes of Jose Calderon, Terrence Ross and one of the young bigs -- and I know [Jonas Valanciunas's] name has come up in conversation -- and I would suggest [Bryan Colangelo] should have no interest in that kind of chatter. Gay's a good player -- he's a definite upgrade on what they have now -- but if it's such a steep price that it robs you of your assets, it's not worth it.

Might sound too rich, but keep in mind that lack of progress will almost certainly cost Colangelo his job. Heck, MLSE already fired one GM out of the blue this month...

But didn't some team just give Joe 116mil?? (wont mention team after a 5 point Quarter) I cant see a team making the same mistake on Gay

Some of these thread titles are sort of funny. I think writers love this kid's name.

I honestly thought this article was going to be about Bosh when I first saw it. 100% serious.

The Raptors are pathetic. They should do whatever they can to make this trade. They're easily the worst drafting team in the history of sports. I mean seriously, they've pretty much had a top 5 pick in every year of their existence and blow it every time. Try something new Canada, trade for the talent, eh?

No one wants to pay Gay that much moolah cmon....

They have a decent core for the first time in years (Valeciunas, Ross, Davis, DeRozen, Lowry). I wouldn't deal any of them right now. They are showing the first signs of life on defense in years under Casey. Trade the Italian Tin Man and keep adding younger pieces that make sense. They need to acquire more toughness and interior defenders/scorers. I like their core, give them a couple of more years under Casey and see where they are.

Why should they give up so much for Gay? TRoss is young and improving. Calderon is their consistent PG. Getting Gay will not improve the Raptors...

Well said.
