08:07 AM ET 01.15 | Restricted free agent Ryan O'Reilly has a bit more leverage than some others -- such as P.K. Subban and Jamie Benn -- thanks to drawing a regular paycheck. Metallurg Magnitogorsk, the KHL team that O'Reilly plays for, is paying the 21-year-old forward a prorated $4-million US to play in Russia this year. It is also believed that Metallurg Magnitogorsk is willing to increase O'Reilly's contract if he agrees to stay in Russia. Negotiations between O'Reilly's agent Mark Guy and the Avalanche have yet to produce a new deal for native of Varna, Ont. (near Stratford). The two sides are believed to be far apart. O'Reilly joined his older brother Cal, 26, with Metallurg Magnitogorsk in December.

And... "Benn" is shorter than "O'Reilly" with less punctuation.

He's a good Victoria boy.

I've said it before and I will continue to say it, if the russian oligarchs want to vastly overpay nhl players, I have no problem with it. Once their league becomes dominated with 3-4 franchises with stupid high payrolls (playing in major junior sized barns and without a real tv contract), then they will learn.

And if O'reilly wants to take 4-5 million and not really pay any taxes, then good for him I guess. He'll still have to deal with the fact that he's playing in a 2nd tier league.

I think he's holding out for a trade to Toronto.

It's okay. We'll give you Lombardi for him. And Bozak. They're studs, promise.

I think we will just MAKE Jamie come back to Dallas...

Thanks for the offer though, Danny.

Well, at least ONE thing didn't change during the lockout -- the Avalanche front office's total incompetence.

A different player on a different team. A Forsberg picture would have been more relevant.

Anorexic? Not unusual.
