05:25 PM ET 01.15 | Mayor Kevin Johnson wants to keep the Kings in Sacramento, and he's doing everything in his power to stop the NBA franchise from leaving for Seattle. On Tuesday, the former NBA point guard said that commissioner David Stern gave him permission to give the NBA board of governors a counter-proposal that would keep the team in Sacramento. The hard part will be finding interested investors. Johnson said there must be a plan for a new arena and any owners signing onto a plan must be local. Potential suitors could be Sleep Train executive Dale Carlsen or Bay Area investor Mark Mastrov, according to the Sacramento Bee. Johnson even said the current owners, the Maloof family, could be involved, but only if they were willing to keep the Kings in Sacramento. "We want this to be the final act of a saga that's gone on for far too long," Johnson said.
