08:18 PM ET 01.15 | Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is going back to school this offseason to hit the textbooks. Two years after leaving Auburn early to enter the 2011 NFL Draft, Newton will be returning to the university for the spring semester to work on his degree in sociology. Auburn spokesman Kirk Sampson confirmed to the Associated Press that the Panthers signal-caller has enrolled in classes, but Newton will not be available for interviews during his time back at Auburn. "[Newton] wants to focus on school and be a normal student," per Sampson.

I'm no fan of Cam Newton but this could be really positive for kids who idolize him and for that I give him him kudos.

Good for him. Best to have something to fall back on after football. Not a fan, but good move regardless.

Good for Cam but I fail to see how he could ever be considered just a normal student.

Won't hurt him to have a better understanding of how people interact with each other. He's often misunderstood, this could help.

Agreed. This is something he didn't have to do, but I'm glad to see that he's doing it. And I hope others (both athletes and non-athletes) take note of it.

One day, when he's being inducted in to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he can bring out his diploma, brandish it before the crowd, and say " Above all things, *this* is my greatest accomplishment!"
