08:14 AM ET 01.16 | The experiment Adam Oates has cooking with Alex Ovechkin opened with a bang Tuesday, and not in a good way as the Caps captain collided hard with teammate Marcus Johansson in open ice. Ovechkin is coming off a career-low 65 points and on Tuesday he admitted being lost at times, especially in the defensive zone, where he is tempted to go the left side "all the time." "To be honest with you, sometimes I just felt lost out there," Ovechkin said. "I don't know, it's my first game and I never played right wing a whole game. But I thought our line played well today and we have two or three days to get better. ... I'll talk to Oatesy about it, but it's getting better and better every day."

I don't know why they keep messing with the guy. He's a 100 point player for multiple seasons and then people start messing with his game?

I agree with this. It seems to me that in the case of a franchise player, maybe you build around him, instead of vice-versa?
of course, is everybody SO specialised, they can't switch?
Tough call I guess

Just trade him to TOR and be done with it.

His best shot comes from the left side. Putting him on right wing pretty much takes that off wing wrist shot off the table. Oatsie better ax this experiment now before OV gets in his own head like last season.

I agree as well but I am also ok with it though. While I more then respect his skill and ability the back pad, slew footing and overall demeanor annoy me

I think this is a bad move also Spiny....then again that's probably why Oates is coaching and I"m here posting to a forum. Oates may just be trying it out as well....and not be a full time move

The challenge might be good for him, but why do I get the feeling that they are setting up Ovie as a scapegoate even before the season starts? Hmm.

bang on. he comes off the boards and shoots off a howitzer, it's the same pattern for probably 40-50% of his goals. It works, why mess with it?

Oates was the King of assists. He best remember this guy is a shooter.

He must be having flashbacks of playing with Hull and Neely.

Exactly..build the team around him...make other player play to his game, not the other way around.
