Why Forsberg wants Philly reunion

07:55 AM ET 01.29 | It appears Philadelphia is the leading contenders to reacquire Peter Forsberg. Forsberg enjoyed the city of Philadelphia, the organization and teammates. Forsberg has told several ex-Flyers teammates he has "unfinished business" with regard to getting the Flyers a Stanley Cup. Forsberg, an unrestricted free agent still trying to get healthy and return to the NHL, plans on playing in a tournament in Sweden on Feb. 7-10. If his surgically-repaired foot feels fine -- and it didn't last month when he attempted to go on the ice -- Forsberg could be back in the NHL by the end of February.

Can't wait to have him back in Philly

January 29, 2008  08:48 AM ET

They make these articles with complete disregard for the Salary cap.
Philly doesn't have the cap space to sign him. Just make him clear waivers, these players shouldn't be able to pick and choose teams like this and create all this drama.

January 29, 2008  09:17 AM ET

we do have the cap space.

January 29, 2008  10:05 AM ET

He may take less money (like Selanne with Ducks), so that he does fit under the cap. Would be nice to add a player like him, without trading anything to get him. GO FLYERS!!!

January 29, 2008  10:23 AM ET

Are you sure its not because they are the only team still willing to gamble on him?

The Flyers do not have the Cap money....yet. As I read if Forsberg signs a $2 million dollar pro-rated contract....his cap number will be $4 million....because it'll be pro-rated for the whole year against the cap....The Flyers should hope he'll sign a pro-rated contract of under $2 million so his cap number keeps them below the actual cap.

What happens with Smith's Number 21? Does he give it up to berg or does "Peter the Great" for the first time in his life relinquish his fabled number 21?

January 29, 2008  12:46 PM ET

Over under on Forsberg losing another organ this season?

January 29, 2008  12:55 PM ET

this, like selanne,s return is guaranteed.if he,s healthy the flyers are definitely getting him.he wants back, as he has something to prove, but mostly, they,re playing great hockey.
another thing, i don,t even bother bringing the cap space into play anymore, cause there are too many ways around it.

January 29, 2008  02:05 PM ET

bostongm, he don't have any trouible with his foot or anything else for that matter when not on ice. It's when he puts that bloody foot in a skate that **** happens. And yeah, he'll re-injure himself for sure.

Anyway, word has it that he might sign with Swedish breeding team Nr1 MoDo. Swedens transferwindow closes Thursday though, so we'll see soon enough. My money is still on Philly though.

January 29, 2008  04:19 PM ET

The Flyers have like...180K in cap space. Moving players to get Forsberg would be dumb, we all know he is injury prone and because of his age he is not a long term asset. Other teams can't handle players with mega contracts. There are only a few teams that could actually afford him unless he signed at a huge discount.

January 29, 2008  08:15 PM ET

where do you people get your cap information? the flyers have had 2.5 mil under the cap all season, and it hasn't changed. most of you are idiots.

January 29, 2008  08:53 PM ET

durk
what the f are you smoking???get your info straight, then comment.for f,s sake ,they got over 2 mil cap space.

After Forsberg resigns with the Flyers, all you stinking Rangers, Devils, and Penguin Fans can pack it in for the season, because the Flyers are on their way to a Stanley Cup.

January 30, 2008  09:51 AM ET

What line do you put Forsberg on?

You can't change the Richards, Hartnell, Downie/Lupul line, they're the most aggressive/take charge line....

You coud possible change the Umberger, Briere, Gagne line, but 2 passers and one shooter? It wouldn't work too well....

Is Forsberg a 3rd liner? Carter, Forsberg, & Knuble....that would be a helluva 3rd line....Carter & Knuble would be scoring machines with Forsberg passing to them....

And what about Kukkonen....that guy should not be on the sidelines....He should be playing....He's young...and he'll only get better with more playing time...

January 30, 2008  11:59 AM ET

Forsberg - Marleau - Knuble Line 3.

January 30, 2008  12:00 PM ET

Or Forsberg - Sundin - Knuble?
