Bruce Arians has inside track as Cardinals head coach

07:42 PM ET 01.16 | With the NFL coaching carousel starting to settle down, a favorite has emerged in the Arizona Cardinals head coaching search. Only two job openings remain, but rumors are swirling that Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is beginning to set himself apart from the rest of the candidates for Arizona and has the "inside track" at the head coaching gig. If the Cardinals are set on making Arians their head coach, they will have to give him full control over the staff. No coaching candidate is going to agree to come in and work with another regime's leftovers, especially one who has a cozy job in Indianapolis and no real need to leave. The opportunities will be there for Arians moving forward. It is understandable that the Cardinals would like to keep Horton and potentially even promote him to head coach, but it's time for them to come to the realization that they need an offensive coach.

I thought it would be great if Arians could get a team of his own... but the Cards?
From the Cards perspective, Arians would certainly lot better than Todd Haley.

Cards seem to be working their way thru ex-Steeler assistant coaches.

"it's time for them to come to the realization that they need an offensive coach."
I'd say that Whisenhunt was pretty offensive.

I read that Haley was only interested if they made him an offer he couldn't refuse

Arians has a unique perspective on how important it is to have quality coaches on staff after filling in so well for Pagano. Of course he wants control.

At this point, they'd be happy to have a mediocre QB.

I think Arians deserves a shot, but is AZ really the right place? Not a great history there since Brenda's man retired.

Not a great history before Kurt got there, either.
