Blues taking over title as West's best?

08:20 AM ET 01.17 | St. Louis was bad enough at the beginning of the 2011-12 season to get its head coach fired -- then Ken Hitchcock came along to lead the Blues to the second-best record in the West. [How] do you think they feel now that the season is finally starting Saturday? They were primed to contend already because of their hunger and improved health, and the lockout should work to their advantage because of their continuity, structure, depth and goaltending. They are set up for this 48-game sprint in the West like the New York Rangers are in the East. ... "We've got another gear we can play at, just based on health alone," Hitchcock said.

Seems like it's better to end up 8th in the West.
Nobody expects…

I could see that if the crown wasn't already on the Kings head

Preds have basically same lineup as last year (minus Suter of course)...could be a fun year for many teams...we all start with the attitude "We are the Best"....wait until four or five games are under the belt...then start letting cream rise to top.....guess the casual fan is back in Music City....game sold out Saturday night against Blue Jackets....what lockout??

One or two late-season acquisitions, and i'll call them contenders.
For now, they're in San Jose Sharks territory.

funny you mention that. My olde friend that moved there 10 years ago was never a huge hockey fan 9easy to understand, he lived on The Island)
But since he's been there, he's becoming quite the Preds fan

I like this thought. And again, till someone knocks them off, it's still (pardon the pun) the Kings' crown to lose

indeed, hence my asking for pardon. Let's face it, you know those people that say "no pun intended"? yeah, well I really can't be one of those

correct....so I will always
buy my cigars from The Good Humidor Man,
give the gift of newspapers (there's no present like The Times after all) and
advise the Polish dancer; Gdansk balerina, Gdansk...and do so without apology!

Yes, opener is sold out, and the next game only has a couple thousand tickets left. I think we should wait to see 10-15 games in before concluding their was no permanent damage from the lockout in the Music City.
Preds biggest problem (again) will be putting the biscuit in the basket. When Martin Erat is your top points guy in the mid-50s, you better hope Pekka Rinne continues to be the second coming of Terry Sawchuck!
2 days until the season starts, yippee!!!

agree.......time will tell......also correct on Pekka...he has to have his A game every night, and hopefully Mason can provide quality backup...defense will have to be stellar....going to Loveless Cafe for lunch to take care of my biscuit problem...best place in south...

Jacques Plante might be a better reference, since he actually played in St Louis!

I was under the impression that he spend the twilight of his career in StL, apparantly not, only 2 seasons. Btw, I just saw that Sawchuk had a season with 39 penalty minutes...goon. Patrick Roy also has 39 penalty mins in a season. Hextall's got'em beat at 43 minutes in a season.
