Detroit GM: 'We might not make the playoffs'

I'm sure comments like this will draw the crowds necessary to justify a new barn.

I find it hard to believe that Detroit will finish lower than 8th in their conference.

A lot of ifs.

IF Howard stays healthy and can steal a few games for them.

IF their D can recover from losing one of the best d-men of all time.

IF Franzen can adapt his game to fill a little more of the role Holmstrom did.

IF Brunner can score at will.

IF Holland can weasel out a few deals...

...Detroit will be just fine.

pretty much agree on all points danny.... if they want it they're gonna have to work for it...no coasting into the playoffs here. As far as deals go .... Holland would have to be Houdini to get something good and preserve a core here

To be honest, i'm kinda looking towards Anaheim here. Not per se this season, but if i'm Getz and Perry and Kenny comes knocking, i'd listen. Wouldn't solve their D problems, but...

I think you'd go broke betting against Detroit.

Defense is where they're lacking tho.... yeah nobody is going to fill Nicks shoes that's for sure...but they need one or two top and second liners on the team. Scoring goals isn't the problem...keeping them out of our net is.

Uh, Ken Holland...if WE do not make the playoffs, you can go look for another job. Or, we can reassign you to simply make pizzas at The Joe. With Ilitch's money, there is no reason why the GM of the Red Wings cannot be more aggressive and creative with trades, signings and the salary cap.
