GM ready to shake up the Steelers

08:42 AM ET 01.17 | This coming offseason will look different in Steeltown. More veterans will be released, free agents will leave without offers from the Steelers and more changes are in order for a team its general manager described as disappointing this past season. The Steelers were one interception too many from making the playoffs in 2012, but as thin a line as that may be, Kevin Colbert said the decisions to make changes will come easier because of it. "When you're 12-4 and a playoff team, sometimes you get mesmerized by your success and you get a little reluctant to change," Colbert said, referring to the Steelers record in 2010 and 2011. "If we don't change a roster that produced 8-8, we'd be silly to expect a better result."

Here's the guys who were out this year with injuries; Roethlisberger, Mendenhall, Polamalu, Pouncey, Harrison, Wallace, Woodley. Sounds like an all pro team. Hope he keeps this in mind before cleaning house.

He's not going to be cleaning house. That being said there will be some major changes, but hey that's the nature of the NFL, if it ain't broke, don't fix it but when you lose it is time to make some changes

FACT is their Offensive line was too banged up and injured to see the true potential of this team yet they still almost made the wildcard. I wouldn't change too much if I were them... just a bit of badluck on the injury front that has slowed them down this season..

They are $10 mil over the cap so changes are comming. They'll have to cut some big contracts and restructure some too to give them room to sign their draft picks, resign their RFA and a few of their UFA and remain under the cap.

What did Mike Wallace get in his last contract? I remember he was a restricted free agent last year and no one touched him, and I know they didn't give him Megatron Money, so I was wondering what he eventually settled for, maybe he is one of the players that will be swept out the door?

I doubt it. Steelers just doesn't operate that way. They would rather invest on a rookie.

Steelers need to get faster on defense, especially at linebacker. I know The outside guys have been hurt but Foote is a real liability. I think one change has to be the 3 man rush on passing downs. Hasn't worked since Big Play Ray Seals in the '90's and I hope the 4 D Lineman pass rush shows up.

At least the Steelers have a Franchise QB that for the past 3-years leads them to come from behind victories. This stellar individual rarely fumbles, gets sacked, or throws picks at the worst possible moment - occasionally.
As Tony Dungy, a former academic All-American with an I.Q. of 155, stated that the Steelers are in deep trouble.

He is ufa as is Mendenhall and 20 others. Some starters some not, most ufa a few RFA. A lot of teams are in the same position as the cap will be around $121-$124 million next year. That is $15 million less than it was four years ago. Now you know why the owners won the CBA contract fight. They got to keep the first $2 billion instead of the #1 billion, lowered their payroll and increased revenues via media deals, PSLs and ticket prices.

He was tendered $2.75 M and held out thru training camp and preseason before he signed it. His production was down this year, and he dropped a lot of passes. I think it is a foregone conclusion he is gone this year, no way would the Steelers franchise him.
