08:13 AM ET 01.17 | Will Derek Jeter's replacement as the face of American baseball make himself known at the upcoming WBC? We have no shortage of candidates: Buster Posey, Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, Justin Verlander, Clayton Kershaw and David Price are some of the first names that come to mind. ... Of the six names I mentioned, Posey, Trout, Harper and Price have been definitively ruled out for Team USA. Verlander and Kershaw are leaning toward not playing, according to sources. Yes, Team USA's roster will include young, charismatic stars like Adam Jones and Giancarlo Stanton when it is announced live Thursday morning on MLB Network. But the collective no-show of their peers is, in a word, disappointing.

Players do get hurt. Pitchers get worn out and don't last the season. I hate the WBC and I don't want to see any players from my favorite teams anywhere near this thing.

I think the WBC also lacks fan interest.

QUOTE(#1):

It's going to be a crying shame if any ML players get hurt in this stupid thing. Stock the team with veteran players who are hanging around in AAA waiting for an injury callup, give them a last hurrah in playing for their country before they hang them up. Who in the US really cares about the WBC?

NOt a bad IDEA....

Why care about an international event, when the best of the best play for an entire season readily available to any fan withing the U.S.

Works for me.

I'm 100% in support of the guys that want to skip this WBC thing. I think it's smart to do so.
I'd be more worried about coming into the 162 game (even more for post season participants) MLB season healthy and ready to play hard for the whole year. They should have college kids and minor league players fill the roster.
