Will Whisenhunt, Rivers win big for Chargers?

09:07 PM ET 01.17 | One thing that Whisenhunt won't have to deal with in San Diego is a quarterback controversy. One of the reasons he was fired in Arizona was because of the constant struggle at the position between three different players. But in San Diego, barring some insane turn of events, Philip Rivers is the only guy who will be quarterbacking the Chargers and history suggests, that's a good thing for Whisenhunt. In Arizona, and with the help of Kurt Warner, Whisenhunt coached the Cardinals to their first-ever Super Bowl appearance. He also helped the growth of Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh and was a big part of the Steelers' Super Bowl victory in 2006. Basically, if Whisenhunt can get a good quarterback, he'll be fine when it comes to calling the plays. Rivers himself has been bogged down by criticism that he's just posing as an elite quarterback and freezes up in big spots. Both Whisenhunt and Rivers have something to prove and when they combine the chips on their shoulders, the end result may be something Chargers fans have waited for.
