08:00 AM ET 01.18 | The booth, it appears, is a perch that will hold Jon Gruden. There was talk this offseason that [Gruden] could be lured to return to coaching with the Eagles. But Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie says that talk didn't come from Gruden himself. In fact, Lurie said [Thursday] that when he reached out to Gruden, Gruden told him in no uncertain terms that he will remain ESPN's Monday Night Football color commentator in 2013 and will not be a head coach. "Jon made it clear that he was not coming back to the NFL this year," Lurie said. ... [Lurie] did pick Gruden's brain: Lurie confirmed that he asked Gruden's opinion about Chip Kelly, and that Gruden told him he had attended an Oregon practice and came away impressed with the way Kelly runs his team.

Dang....so that means he will still be in the booth.....turn the volume down when he's talking again this year I guess.

Note to self---- No need to watch MNF again next season.

He's waiting for Garrett to get fired after next season.

I hate night games because I have to get up early to go to work.

But Jon Gruden is another good reason to tune them out.

He probably wants to coach a team where all the pieces are in place to win, much like the Tampa gig.

So true, they need to get a whole new crew for Monday Night Football.

I think Monte Kiffin is there to open the door for Lane. But what you say makes sense also. Now that I think about it, there isn't much difference between Lane Kiffin and Jon Gruden.

If Lurie is taking advice from Chucky then Eagles fans are truly screwed.

Smart move by Gruden. Better to have people think you know the answers rather than take the test.

Or, better to have people think you're washed up and incompetent than to take a head coaching job and remove all doubt.

Exactly, Gruden is over-Raided.

This isn't a surprise. How much of the Gruden-to-(insert NFL team) came from Gruden himself? The majority of it came from media speculation/wishful thinking.

If that doesn't set Cowboys fans off the deep end...

Variation on the Lincoln quote, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

Seems to me he didn't coach in Tampa the last couple years he was there

QUOTE(#16):

Jon Gruden got fired in Tampa for losing and not keeping control of his team. Gruden is just an average football coach so why Gruden gets any attention is amazing. Jon got fired for screwing up and losing all respect of his players. There Get it?

Jon Gruden got fired because his West coast offense wasn't very good, and He never developed younger players...

I think he eas fired in Tampa for being an idiot, but that's just my opinion.
