Count on an NBA team in London

08:06 AM ET 01.18 | The countdown is on. It's coming. Maybe not next year. Maybe not for five years, or 10. But it's coming. There will be a London Monarchs franchise in the NBA, or a Manchester Marauders team in the NFL before you know it. It's happening. Our cozy little corner of the world is fading. The world is coming. "No question, you can sense that this is where we're headed and I think that's a good thing," Knicks forward Steve Novak said yesterday, as a bevy of European journalists descended on O2 Arena, where the Knicks and Pistons will play a regular-season NBA game [Friday]. ... Said Jason Kidd: "It won't stop here. There'll be a team in Mexico soon, too. This is heading to be some kind of worldwide phenomenon, and I think it's great."

London is too far away to hold just one NBA franchise. My money is on that they will make a NBA Euro League that will somehow get Asia in there too.

Dumb idea... it will be more of a gimmick if they run things that way as the talent would obviously be subpar compared to the NBA... Better off just adding another team. One in Canada and one in London/UK The travel time isn't as bad as people think and they would have the highest attendance out of any team in the NBA right now... They have a cult following of basketball heads over in London and it would be a huge success..

More dilution of talent and effort in a season that has too much travel and not enough rest to see the best efforts as it is. Maybe Pop will just forfeit and miss the flight to London.

LOL!!!! you know what though... there is alot of budding talent on the verge of entering the league in the next few years. As much as things seem diluted now I see things changing drastically in the next few years.

How is it level??? Explain this to me.... They would be basically feeding off of the rest of the leagues scraps... plus the fact they don't play the top tier teams in the NBA.. who da hell is gonna pay to watch that?? they would never sell out any games... better off just adding another team to the current format the travel time isn't as long as it seems. they can more then adjust the league schedule for teams that have to take longer trips to have a day off in between so their bodies can recoup... Its a much easier solution then the one you feel will be successful.... Think about it..

The NBA is run by business monkeys who don't care about the family life and welfare of these players in the prime of their careers. It's sad having these NBA players who are fathers away from their wives and children at least 40 nights in the season playing in the same country. Now add continental travels and they're even gone for longer periods. All in the name of money.
These players are young so they don't see how they're being used. But when they're all grown and look back would it be all worth it in their eyes?

They should try putting an NBA team in Toronto and Vancouver, then it would be truly an international league.
