08:17 AM ET 01.18 | Though Notre Dame got in the way of an Alabama defense vs. Oregon offense showdown, there is at least a chance Kirby Smart and Chip Kelly wind up meeting again in the NFL -- on the same sideline. According to one report Thursday, the Philadelphia Eagles are hoping the two can come together for the 2013 season. Howard Eskin, a longtime TV/radio reporter in Philadelphia, wrote on his Twitter account that the Eagles were interested in Smart and Georgia's Todd Grantham as candidates to be Kelly's defensive coordinator. Kelly, Oregon's coach for the past four years, was hired Wednesday as the Eagles' new head coach. He held his first press conference [Thursday]. ... [Smart] continues to be one of the hottest names in college football.

First Grantham, now Smart. Someone should tell the owners that the Eagles can't join the Big East.

Like it matters, everyone knows Saban runs the defense. And the state of Alabama...

Bama wont lose anything if they take Smart...Now if Grantham left UGA.. different story

Maybe Bama can lose Nickey's blue suit... if they can talk Smart into taking it with him to Philly.

At least it is well run. Jerry Jones is running the state of Texas. Need I say more?

Texas economy and budget are doing great so you could be right. One thing he knows is how to make a profit.

That depends on whether your on top looking down or bottom looking up.

But, he does know how to make a profit while losing games.

Sounds just like UTx athletic dept, huh?

He needs to re-invest some of the "profit" into the public schools of this state, and reform the funding distribution formula.

OK, I am gonna throw a penalty flag on myself for political commenting.

THWEET! Pitchers for the table (yards don't much matter, now).

January 18, 2013  09:17 AM ET

I'd think that was a mistake, if just for the fact that Smart knows college and has not much, if any, real experience with the pros.
