Terry Francona: More to book than controversial Red Sox excerpts

09:25 AM ET 01.19 | Terry Francona was not particularly pleased with the portion of his upcoming book that was hand-selected as a teaser in the latest edition of Sports Illustrated. On Friday, when Francona was in Cleveland for the team's Tribe Fest event, the Indians manager said he feels the controversial excerpt painted a misleading portrait of the book, "Francona: The Red Sox Years," which was co-written by the Boston Globe's Dan Shaughnessy and is due to hit shelves on Tuesday. In the excerpt, both Francona and former Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein were critical of the direction being taken by Boston's ownership prior to the 2011 season. "That's not what the book is about," Francona said on Friday. "I'm comfortable that when these people take the time to read it through, that it gets put in better perspective. Personally, I'm a little disappointed, but I just have to be patient and hope that people want to read the book. I'm smart enough to know that that's why those things get put out there. "If it helps sell them, I'm glad," he added with a laugh. "But at the same time, that's not what the book is basically about."

Please. The only reason anyone would buy this book is for the dirt on the Red Sox. Don't pretend like you don't know why that was the part released.

What else would a guy from Miami be doing in Canada during the winter?

Apparently you are not familiar with the concept of hypocrisy.

QUOTE(#17):

As for Francoma's book, why would anyone buy it? He was hired by the Sox owners, handed a line-up stocked with all-stars and high priced talent and he sat in the dugout while they won a zillion games for him. Now he says the owners didn't care? Sorry Terry, many of us remember how successful you were in Philly with only "decent" talent and many know it was the Sox players who made you, not the other way around. It was those owners and the previous owners and Dan Duquette (mostly) who found and signed those players, not you Tito.

He's just trying to reminisce about said zillion games won because going forward the results will be in the opposite column. Plus, he's stuck with Nick Swisher now.

Correct, our Latin idiot was only a player, yours was the manager :)

Your Latin idiot also played for our Latin idiot briefly. Those were forgettable days.
