11:59 AM ET 01.19 | If he was surprised, he didn't admit it, but Alfonso Soriano seemed relieved to still be wearing a Cubs uniform for the opening of the Cubs Convention on Friday. "I'm very happy," said Soriano, who was told at the end of last season that the Cubs would consider trade possibilities over the winter for the big-ticket left fielder with two years, $36 million left on his eight-year, $136 million deal. "Always, I want to stay here and finish my career here," he added, "and try to win before I retire, because I signed here to get to a World Series and win in Chicago. That was my decision. If they win, I want to be part of that team."

Oh gee, thank you so much for honring your contract Senor Soriano - is there any chance we can count on $18 million worth of production from you, for the next two years??? Ship the bum to Seattle ... that'll learn him ;)

Just don't be too picky, Alfonso. The AAA franchise in Iowa is still called the Cubs too, right?

All of you Cub fans can think departed Jim Hendry for giving number 12 that ridiculous long term contract.

To be fair, Soriano had a decent year last season. 32 HR, 100+ RBI and top 20 in NL MVP voting isn't bad.

unluckely the fans can't see the good things from this guy except the bad and dark side, sure he has not living into the cubs higher expectations but one solo player can't do everything as /pitch/catch/hit doubles/homeruns/manage the team/ but what else can the chicago fans expect??

"I signed here to get to a World Series and win in Chicago." With so many years of the Cubbies playing without a championship, that was a rather questionable decision.

Haven't you noticed yet that Soriano's legs won't allow him to run anywhere?

...which means that he'll probably be good for about .243-14-57 this year.

Finally only 2 more years left on that deal! Although I agree, he did pretty much earn his money in 2012. Still, if he were on the open market, no team would talking a 2 year, $36M deal for him. Cubs are lucky he was so productive in 2012.
