08:51 AM ET 01.20 | The prankster behind Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o's fake online girlfriend left a trail of deceit stretching thousands of miles over the course of five years. A Hawaiian beauty-pageant queen told The Post that she also was contacted by "Lennay Kekua" in 2008 -- before the made-up woman duped the star football player. "We would chat back and forth," said Tessi Tolutau, who was crowned Miss South Pacific in 2007 and hails from the same small Hawaiian beach town as Te'o. "She explained to me that she played basketball at Stanford, that she was a Victoria's Secret model, that she was dating somebody from Stanford. She even said she was dating [Jets quarterback] Mark Sanchez."

But I do agree

This story will greatly affect Te'o's draft position. So I think it's still fair game at this point.

Hey I suppose I too should come forward at this point and acknowledge that I too dated Lennay Kekua back in 1999 . . . in an AOL chat room.

He fell to late 2nd rd for sure, but I would say it was his play in the NC game more than this overplayed BS that caused the fall.

So this supposed prankster only targets people from one small Hawaiian beach town. What a relief that the rest of the world is safe from this malignant trickster.

I agree that his play in the NC game definitely hurt his draft stock a lot. But for the teams that also place a high emphasis on character this could drive his draft stock even a little bit lower.

FYI for ya all. Ewa Beach is in Hawaii. In fact it's a beach town west of Honolulu. I lived there for a little over 3years. That's why I'm way more intreged by this story than I normally would be.

The real story in all of this is the media itself. They repeat any story, blogger or nameless source without doing the least bit of research to determine if any of it is true. There is NO investigative reporting anymore, costs too much, easier to just repeat whatever may sell. They are the ones getting a free pass in all of this.

Dr., time to hi-jack this thread again and remind everyone, how LSU and Florida got beat in their bowl games, or we all can comment how good all the other teams in the SEC are, just because one team (Bama) won the NCG. I'm still having a hard time figuring out, how they divided the trophy up to 14 pieces?? Does Miss State, Miss, Kentucky, Vandy. Tennessee, Auburn and Arky, get a piece of that NC trophy??? :-)

It hurt Janoris Jenkins when he was drafted. Janoris was a sure 1st round pick, before he got into trouble at Florida. The kid had to transfer to North Alabama and the Rams took him in the 2nd roun. Believe me, Janoris was a more of a troublemaker than Te'o's!!!

Do you know any of the players ("players in the story") or know any of the families?

Yep. And he had the talent to be a 1st rounder. He had a helluva first year for our Rams, OT!!!
