Jiri Hudler may miss Flames opener after father's death

09:19 AM ET 01.20 | Jiri Hudler's return to the Calgary Flames remains up in the air. The Flames don't anticipate the forward, who returned to Czech Republic due to the death of his father, to be in the lineup for Sunday's season opener against the San Jose Sharks. n fact, the team said Saturday night Hudler wasn't even in Calgary. There were reports from the Czech Republic he had departed after Friday's funeral for his father, Jiri Sr.

I said last year I see similarities between the Wings and the Devils from a few years ago. You keep losing people and it eventually catches up. They will have a few years that they are a fringe playoff team (might even miss a year) but with Holland will get that team headed in the right direction again in the not to distant future.

Losing Lidstrom and his near 30 minutes a nigh is going to be very hard to replace. He covered for a lot of mistakes by his teammates and now that security blanket is gone.

Which is what happened post lock out for the Devils. Stevens retired once the lockout ended and Niedermeyer left to play with his brother. Can't replace HOF'ers
