10:32 AM ET 01.20 | Oregon is promoting offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich to head coach, a source told CBS Saturday night. Helfrich will be announced as the Ducks' new coach on Sunday. The 39-year-old Helfrich, who grew up a Ducks fan, replaces Chip Kelly, who was hired last Wednesday by the Philadelphia Eagles. Helfrich was the frontrunner to get the job, keeping continuity with Kelly's system, although Oregon did interview Stanford assistant Pep Hamilton on Friday morning as part of the search process.

The local radio guys say pep was only interviewed to fulfill the legal requirement of interviewing a minority candidate. Helfrich was always goingto be the guy. Probably right bc why would Oregon seriously be considering going such a different direction with their offense.

Good comment, I agree. IMO, I think this is the way to go. Helfrich is a good QB coach and is a players coach.

Probably nothing!!! I'm not too sure the NCAA has enough evidence to do anything. Willie Lyle was also involved with Texas, LSU and Cal and nothing came of that!!

Jada, I forgot all about this: "Frost started for Nebraska during the 1996 and 1997 seasons, going 11-2 and 13-0 respectively. In 1997, he was the starting quarterback for the final National Championship team for legendary coach Tom Osborne and was a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award".

Chip Kelly coached in the east (Columbia, Johns Hopkins, and New Hampshire) for sixteen years before going to Oregon as oc in 2007. Two years later he's the head coach. I guess that qualifys as hiring from within. Personally, I thought it was Belotti's plan to promote Kelly when he hired him as oc.

That's true, but "so far", that cleared check you speak of, has not been proved for nothing but, recruiting services!!!! Now that could change in the future, but I'm not so sure that the NCAA has enough prove of that, but as you say, I could be wrong!!! If you can show me a "photo" copy of the check fron Chip Kelly's "personal checking account, I would be happy. Can you provide that for me????
