07:15 PM ET 01.20 | Auburn Tigers offensive lineman Shon Coleman has been granted a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA. Coleman has not played the previous two seasons because of an ongoing battle with leukemia. "This is great news for Shon, who has been through a lot medically during the last few years," Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said. "He has been courageous in his fight and we look forward to him returning to the football field. We're also very appreciative of the NCAA staff for their understanding of his situation and granting him his sixth year." Coleman was originally diagnosed with leukemia in the spring of 2010.

Seems like a good kid. Too bad his last year is probably not going to be a good one.

This won't be his last year. he signed in 2010, so he is now eligible through the 2015 season. Good for him. The NCAA got one right, and did it early enough for him to plan accordingly. Maybe he will show the talent that was thought out of high school and not need the 6th year, but at least now he knows.

Join me in petitioning SI editors to produce a special edition 'Pink Issue' tied to rasing funds for breast cancer care and cure (even if your peeps aren't victims of breast cancer, it's in the wheelhouse of C). They get it on the newstands with accompanying 'Pink Pages' online in September, so that the fundraising events can be in force during BC month - October. If you're interested, FNmail me, and I'll pass along more details.
