07:58 AM ET 01.21 | The Niners may be going to the Super Bowl, but will David Akers be going with them? The 49ers' placekicker added a chapter to his nightmarish season when his only field-goal attempt, a 38-yarder, clanged off the top of the left upright in the third quarter of San Francisco's 28-24 win over Atlanta on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game. Akers, who was among the first players to leave for the team bus, was asked if he expected to kick in San Francisco's final game. "I'm here until they tell me otherwise," Akers said outside the locker room. Akers, who has missed 15 of his past 38 attempts dating back to Week 3, earned the right to kick in the postseason after he survived a weeklong practice competition this month with Billy Cundiff, who was waived Friday.

He thinks the threats he's getting now are bad? If he blows a kick in the Superbowl and it causes them to lose he'll have to move to another country.

I love Akers from his days in Philly... but the guy is a complete headcase right now.
He's only made 16 of 25 (64%) since the bye week. Making him arguably the worst kicker in the league this year.
He's thinking way too much on the pressure kicks. Given a clutch scenario, I think he's near-guaranteed to choke.
Personally I'd feel more comfortable with a no-name free agent than Akers going up against his old special teams coach.
