Rays eyeing Luke Scott and Delmon Young

08:09 AM ET 01.21 | As spring training beckons, forgive fans in Tampa Bay for feeling the roster deserves a grade of "incomplete." [The Rays] look a hitter or two short of having a team to put down on paper. They still need a DH. Maybe another outfielder. Conceivably both. The DH spot is wide open, and a free agent seems likely, though the money, of course, will be a factor as the payroll is already in the $55 million range. ... The list of candidates has obviously been thinned, but there are still some interesting options, topped by two familiar names: Luke Scott and Delmon Young. ... Other candidates? Former Ray Dan Johnson is still out there. So is Aubrey Huff, for that matter. Old pros Jim Thome and Carlos Lee. Injury risks such as Travis Hafner and Juan Rivera.

Young is the best fit for each other, they need a hitter, and he needs a job being a hitter.

the rays should be able to make some tough noise in the 2013 season,,,,,but it could be very hard and difficult task,, don't forget the orioles are too tough, the yankees are a difficult team, the jays are in all the way up to the division goal,,,the red sox would have to prove themselves and that could be a stumble for rays as well!!

I live in Tampa and I'd like to see this team play somewhere more deserving than the Trop. Even if it means they have to relocate.

It is amazing what a DH can command for salary for such a specialized position. Almost any Joe Blow would take a million dollars for a one year contract - but that person has to hit a cutter from Rivera when necessary. See specialized talent - still for a million bucks most people think you won the lottery. In baseball that is an insulting one year offer

Scott is the best fit. He'll be back in top form this season, he wants to stay, and the Rays had been eyeing him for years prior to last season. No doubt they'll sign him again. The guessing game is getting just plain silly at this point. Put the team together and get the show on the road!

I'm Jewish. And my family came over from Europe and settled in Tampa 80 years ago. It was a reflection upon Delmon Young's anti-Semitic tirade. Nothing more, nothing less.
