08:11 AM ET 01.21 | While he was vacationing in Africa, Nationals manager Davey Johnson learned of Washington's signing free agent reliever Rafael Soriano. "That kind of surprised me," Johnson said Saturday. ... The Nationals already had a presumed incumbent closer in Drew Storen, who saved 43 games in 2011 but was slowed by injury last season, and another potential one in Tyler Clippard, who saved 32 games filling in for Storen. But Soriano came to Washington, as Rizzo said, to pitch in the ninth inning. ... "The guy that is most dominant as I'm concerned" will close, Johnson said. "As it stacks right now, [Soriano is] the No. 1 guy. But we'll see how they throw."

Management of the Nats has a short memory about Storen saving 43 games last year, they only remember the last one he blew against the Cards and they brought in Soriano to pitch the ninth.

Soriano isn't as automatic as people might think.

Nice problem to have.Storen. Soriano. Clippard. Any of the three can handle it...just not against the Cardinals.

nice problem to have indeed, but injuries are flying around in every bullpen and you never have enough relievers,, should soriano workout for the nationals? should the nationals trade clippard to the trade offer from any other team??yes the nationals would and could get benefit in either way,,,

soriano would like to opt out of the contract in the second year of his deal with the nationals,,would the nationals give him a new contract?? or let him walk away like the yankees did it this past off season>>???
