Injuries could deny Fluker's shot at history

08:13 AM ET 01.21 | So much for landing in the history books? D.J. Fluker made history when he joined Syracuse's Justin Pugh as the first two non-seniors to ever receive an invitation to the Senior Bowl. The former Alabama right tackle accepted it, but he might not be able to play in Saturday's game. Lingering groin and calf injuries are hampering Fluker, who announced his decision to leave one year early for the NFL earlier this month. He will participate in Monday morning's weigh-in and then try to give it a go at the South team's afternoon practice. "That's kind of questionable right now," Fluker said. "I'm trying to see how I feel today and tomorrow and see how we go from there."

So if they start bringing non-seniors in, will they change the name to something else? The I'm Outta Here Bowl? The Getting Paid Above The Table Now Bowl? The Draft Assessment Maybe Right But Maybe Not Bowl?

Fluker was a true team leader this past season. If not for him firing up the team in the SEC CG in the 3rd quarter, Georgia might have been the team to destroy ND then watch in horror as the T'eo ordeal played out.
I dunno about the senior bowl thing. Maybe they should start another bowl that isn't named senior and let any who are leaving early be eligible.

Key question: Did Fluker redshirt? Is he a "junior" only in terms of CFB eligibility? Has he completed his degree, or will he finish his degree at the end of Spring term?
All of these things should be a part of this report and any other report about "underclassmen" receiving invitations to the Senior Bowl.

I don't know how you can keep this guy out of anything! One of them most infectious people I have ever seen. Just be around him for a few minutes...you can't help but be infected by his personality and demeanor. A real classy guy who just happens to be one helluva football player.

You have to have either completed your senior season of eligibility or declared for the draft and already graduated to play in the Senior Bowl. I think it is great that someone who had done the work on and off the field gets the chance to be there.

so what was this NFLPA game aired this weekend? Just a "look at me again, I didn't get invited to the SR. bowl" type of game?
