08:05 AM ET 01.22 | Dare to dream, Seattle fans. The new Seattle NBA ownership group has begun discussing possible candidates to run its franchise and has deliberated whether to target San Antonio Spurs general manager R.C. Buford and former Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird, sources told Yahoo! Sports. ... The pending owners want to completely redo the franchise's basketball infrastructure, sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Seattle group believes it will need to completely rebuild the franchise, and that means hiring an executive with a strong history of drafting, player evaluation and organization building. Kings GM Geoff Petrie, who is in the final year of his contract, will not be retained, sources said.

Too funny. The new Seattle owners start "shopping", not even bothering to consult with anyone.
They said they wanted Phil Jackson as coach, but I think Phil said he was done, and I doubt he wants to spend 5+ years building a franchise.
And I can't see RC leaving. He's working with a great owner and coach right now, and some of the biggest decisions are on the horizon, as Manu and Duncan will be leaving in the next 2 or 3 seasons. Why take a chance on a new ownership that may not know what they are doing? Stick with the same team and really be doing a lot of the exact same work that he would be doing in Seattle, only for a known entity.

"...I doubt he (Jackson) wants to spend 5+ years building a franchise."
Especially since he's never had to spend one year rebuilding a team. If it's not filled with all-stars and playoff-ready, then Phil's not interested. Bird won't leave Indiana.
