Raw numbers a raw deal for Bryzgalov

08:18 AM ET 01.22 | Numbers don't always tell the whole story -- and, sometimes, they lie. This is one of those times with the Flyers. Through two games, Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov has looked sharp in net. Yet, you would not know that based on the league stats. The stats say Bryzgalov has a 3.05 goals against average and .909 save percentage. What they don't say is that the club's defensemen aren't playing very well and that he's had to face too many shots off breakdowns. Or that the opposition has burned the Flyers' penalty kill units with five power-play goals -- four against him (one against an empty net). "I think I've played pretty good games," Bryzgalov said. He faced 40 shots on Sunday in Buffalo.

Buffalo's d-men played awful last night too, and they walked out with a 2-1 win because Miller was standing on his head robbing the Leafs of goals.Elite goalies steal games for your team. Bryz is making elite money but not stealing any games.

Certainly can't argue your point, but he appears to be in a better position to do so than lat year.

If Bryz really is bringing the right stuff then it should all average out by the end of the season. I wouldn't let 2 games make up my mind one way or another.

It's important to remember that when the Flyers made the deal for Bryz, they were expecting to have Pronger anchoring the defense. It's clear where the real issue is and if they don't upgrade the D, it won't matter who is in net. And, the whole idea of goalies stealing games only works when the defense breaks down every once in a while. If the defense is consistently bad, putting Sir Charles Litton in net isn't gonna help.

Instead Bryz turned out to be the anchor. We saw it in Phoenix, he's good at card tricks too:)
