Lakers want to save money in potential Gasol trade

05:44 PM ET 01.22 | Now that Pau Gasol has been moved to the bench "permanently," the Lakers are open to dealing the four-time All-Star. However, any possible trade is complicated by L.A.'s unwillingness to take back any long-term money in a deal. With big money owed to Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard (if he re-signs in LA) over the next few years, the Lakers don't want to go to deep into the luxury tax with three massive contracts. Gasol is owed $19 million in each of the next two seasons, moving that type of contract without taking money back will be difficult.

Something to think about. Dwight hasn't exactly looked like the answer to the Lakers' questions.

The current system doesn't work well with Gasol or Howard. Trade them both and start planning for next season.
