SEC dominates Super Bowl rosters

08:02 PM ET 01.22 | The San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens are subject to hundreds of hours of overanalysis as the two teams prepare for their Super Bowl XLVII matchup in New Orleans. When looking at the rosters for both teams, there is one thing that stands out. Not only does the Southeastern Conference have a stranglehold on the college football ranks, but their impact in the NFL continues to grow. The SEC has owned the first-round of the NFL Draft and they have ruled the BCS for the past seven years, but now their presence is overwhelming in the NFL's biggest game. Among the 140 players who are members of the 49ers' and Baltimore Ravens' active rosters, injured reserve lists and practice squads, an impressive 23 players have come from the SEC ranks. Twelve of the SEC players are on the Ravens roster and 11 from San Francisco. The ACC and Big Ten are next in line with 19 players representing each conference. Out of the 14 teams in the SEC, only Kentucky and Vanderbilt do not have players representing them in the big game.

They would have included players from WV and TCU in the Big 12 count, but there were none!!!

(lol, just kidding. I have no idea. Seems to be a minor issue to get annoyed over, though).

How is the sec dominating again?
Each SEC team in the conference accounts for 1.64 players in the SB.
Each B1G and ACC team in the conference accounts for 1.58 players in the SB.
If the B1G or ACC had 1 more player in the game, they would pass the SEC.

It's amazing the level some will go to push their agenda or talking points. Do they just assume people read the headlines and that's it.....wait a minute, that is what many do.

I'd like to meet those players that make up the .58 and .64. Are they midgets?

JK, if it's not a "minor issue to get annoyed over", then why did the mods ever post his article?? I bet to some SEC fans, this is a "major" article and I'm sure they will run with it!!!

Good point and good comment. Yes some (or maybe most) people do just read the "headlines" and then post a comment.

Besides all the previous posts above, what does it really matter if a conference has more players in the Superbowl? Has SEC dong measuring come down to this? How odd.

I have to agree with others on this, how is it "Dominant" when it's 23 out of 140 vs. 19 for Big Ten and ACC, what a stupid headline and story.
