07:54 AM ET 01.23 | The controversy over whether former Raiders coach Bill Callahan "sabotaged" the team's Super Bowl XXXVII chances has a new chapter. Jerry Rice has come forward to say he sides with his former teammate Tim Brown in believing that Callahan wanted to lose. Rice, who was on the Raiders team that lost Super Bowl XXXVII to the Buccaneers, said on ESPN that Callahan disliked his players, disliked his team, and was willing to let his old boss, then-Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden, beat him. ... ESPN???s Trey Wingo stopped Rice and asked him if he realized the magnitude of the accusation that Callahan once threw the Super Bowl. Rice said he understands the weight of his words. "Yeah, I know exactly what I???m saying," Rice said.

Yawn. What else happened over a decade ago?

January 23, 2013  08:07 AM ET

WOW!!!

Now if The GOAT says it, there has to be some significance to the story.

Hey, we're only 4 days from the Pro Bowl! Why don't we have Pro Bowl stories? People are really excited about the Pro Bowl this year, right? Like, some fans who can't afford the airfare are planning to walk to Hawaii from Cleveland just to be at the game.

January 23, 2013  08:14 AM ET

It was laziness. Callahan never changed the offensive sets or the terminology from when Gruden was the coach.

January 23, 2013  08:16 AM ET

Common sense says this isn't true, otherwise it would have come out a long time ago. But it is strange that Rice is supporting it.

Everybody but the players!!!!! Finger Pointers! It wasn't me! It was Him! Ask the Quarterback see what he says!

January 23, 2013  08:23 AM ET

You're talking integrity of the game here....

Exactly. Callahan probably never thought he'd see the Bucs in any gametime setting, much less a Super Bowl.

January 23, 2013  12:01 PM ET

So, if Callahan hated the team so much, why'd he even bother letting them get as far as a Super Bowl?

Was working for Al Davis That Bad!!

You just can't make this garbage up.

I bet Davis was the one who changed the Teams Master Plan, I can see him say to the Coach this is how we do it and what to say! He was definitely capable of doing something like this! The problem is, if the coach says something he gets black balled!
