Young motivated ... but healthy?

08:03 AM ET 01.23 | Credit Ruben Amaro Jr. for his optimism when it comes to Delmon Young. Young made just 29 starts in the outfield for Detroit last season, but Amaro wants him to be the everyday guy in right. That is a position he has not played in six years. He is not healthy; doctors performed microfracture surgery on his ankle 10 weeks ago and his availability for opening day in doubt. The former No. 1 overall pick is 27 years old, with a name forever stained by rage issues that prompted his throwing a bat at an umpire and a drunken anti-Semitic rant. He is at a crossroads in his career. "I think he's motivated," Amaro said. There is inherently little risk in the Phillies signing Young because of the financial commitment.

everyday guy in right, lol, he is by far the worst outfielder ive seen in the majors, he cant run, throw or even field a fly ball, and unless its the playoffs he cant hit. good luck with that Philly, hahaha

For only $750k or $775k or whatever I saw MLB network said he signed for last night, he's definitely worth a shot. That's peanuts.

Probably because of his off the field issues.

And also the fact that (a) he's horrible in the field and (b) his hitting was one of the worst in the league for a DH last year and (c) Fielder and Cabrera already hit into way too many double plays.

Correction: THE worst DH last year, and a historical futile season for a DH.

Still not sure why Tampa didn't make the guy an offer. He can hit, and he could have DHed there.

I think it's because they've been down that road already.
