05:34 PM ET 01.23 | The Los Angeles Lakers are reeling less than halfway through the season, but GM Mitch Kupchak insists that head coach Mike D'Antoni isn't the team's problem. Rather, Kupchak believes that a lack of effort from his roster is the primary reason behind the Lakers' disappointing 17-24 start to the season, pointing to how frequently his players are getting out-hustled on key plays. "I'm a little bit concerned about our effort. I'd like to see better effort on the court," Kupchak told ESPN LA. "When the ball is not bouncing your way, when shots aren't going in, you just can't seem to get a break, the one thing you can control on the court is your effort and loose balls and running the floor, defending, offensive rebounding."

Oh perfect... this is like the mother in denial of her daughter's drug habits. You know her friends are doing it... not her. Is Isaiah running the team by any chance? This is unbelievable... yikes.

The problem is multi-fold.

Defense. Scoring. Rebounding. Passing. Turnovers. Age. Chemistry. Coaching.

That cover it?

The Lakers' nosedive this year is nothing less than stunning. What a dud. They have to play .750 ball to get to a qualifying number of wins and they look nowhere near doing that.

He-Man!!! When the Lakers hired Mike Brown that was a mistake, then to insult every picking D'Antoni over Phil Jackson was a gravely insult to the people.... Jim Buss must go!!!

Mike Brown should have been fired after the last season, and I'm not surprised he got bounced.I do not get the Mike D'Antoni hiring.Lakers are going nowhere this year.

It looks like Jim Buss wanted to show everyone that he could win without Phil Jackson only fools maked decisions like that...a HOF coach wasnt hire but an ex-italian coach and ex- Knick scoach that was ran out of town, and a HC that Kobes played for in italy before he became pro got hired......that was a no-brainer!!!

QUOTE(#13):

think it's b/c of lack of respect for a coach who really hasn't won much recently? I find it peculiar that the Lakers hired both Brown and Dantoni... Do you have a B-List actor as the spokesman for Mercedes? Why on earth wouldnt the Buss family hire a former Laker(not byron scott), one that commanded respect and exudes winning...?

Scott was under contract with the Cavs but Phils asst. was there cant think of name!!!
