JaMarcus Russell prepping for comeback

08:30 PM ET 01.23 | One of the biggest draft busts in NFL history is preparing for a comeback. JaMarcus Russell, former number one overall selection of the Oakland Raiders, is spending time getting in shape in hopes of getting his first taste of NFL action since being released by the Raiders in 2009. Russell currently weighs 308 pounds, which is actually a good thing, after weighing 320 pounds over the fall. The 27-year-old quarterback had tryouts with the Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins in 2010, but his love for cheeseburgers and sizzurp was too much for him to overcome. Since those failed attempts at finding a home in the league, the interest in Russell's services have been nonexistent. He is hoping all of that will change now. It's easy to scoff at a potential Russell comeback, but there is no denying his determination. Being out of the league has made him hungrier than ever... for success, not the all-you-can-eat buffet.

Lots of teams need quarterbacks, which is why they should look elsewhere.

"He's broke".

308lbs? Does he plan on moving to the offensive line?

I guess that wouldn't be such as a bad idea considering how bad he was at quarterback.

If a gig in the NFL or CFL doesn't work out, he could still be the spokesperson for Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig.

Make a come back as a guard or tackle maybe

January 24, 2013  01:55 AM ET

if he is serious then sign for the league min. and prove you deserve chance. some how I doubt he will succeed

January 24, 2013  01:57 AM ET

good luck with that. but if he is serious then sign for the league min. and give that money to charity. he really could not have gone thru 30 mill already could he? somehow I do not think he will make it back unless he wants to be a tackle.

He is hoping Jerry Jones is so fed up with Romo he'll try anything. Somehow I see this guy and JJ making a deal. Not long ago Dan Snyder would have been fascinated with the prospect.

What a waste of God given talent.

January 24, 2013  08:05 AM ET

It's that whole "million dollar talent and a ten cent head" thing. Sports are full of them unfortunately.
