Jets owner exploring Revis trade

07:55 AM ET 01.24 | Transition mode may take over a significant part of Gang Green's personnel, too. The New York Jets, fresh off an exhaustive hunt for new general manager John Idzik, will explore options to deal star corner Darrelle Revis this offseason, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. Revis, whose contract voids after the 2014 season, is set to earn $6 million in 2013 (between salary and bonuses), and owner Woody Johnson has strong reservations about the ability to extend Revis's deal, the sources said. Johnson has expressed his desire to attempt to land value for Revis now, rather than risk losing him as an unrestricted free agent a year from now, most likely seeking as much draft-pick compensation for him as possible.

Could be a tough sell with Revis' history of holding out and wanting to renegotiate his contracts

What a mess, they cannot tag him after this year because they let it in his last contract as part of the deal and it is reported the Jets are $19.4 million over the 2013 salary cap.
That last GM with the blessings of Woody have made a total mess of that team.

Let's get rid of anybody on this team who might have talent. Woody is doing a fine job.

Jets should have traded him last year when he threatened a holdout AGAIN. Now, he's an expensive 28 year old DB rehabbing a blown ACL with a history of holdouts. How much you think the Jets can get for that? 3rd rounder at best?

All revis cares about is his contract .....can the Jets get a discount or prorated contract based on all the time he has missed from last years injury and the year of his holdout by coming into a season I'll prepared and out of football shape when he incurred a hamstring injury....henis a great player but obviously replaceable as shown by the emergence of Cromartie and the secondary.... Trade him if there are teams willing to give you a great return...otherwise keep him and hope he honors his contract and see if he is physically up for the challenge of coming back from injury...why renegotiate an extension with a player coming off an injury

This makes sense and maybe a CB desperate team (Lions) will pony up picks/cash/Titus Young to get him.

It's funny you say that because I can honestly see the Jets trading Revis to the Seahawks for Flynn and Browner. Not the best move but it's something I'm sure both teams would consider...

They really should be exploring a head coach trade.

Revis can not hold out this year. It is in his contract, just like the Jets can not tag him. Revis should be able to get something solid in return. All we know is he will not be traded inside the division.
