07:58 AM ET 01.24 | If the Pro Bowl is on life support, Peyton Manning is doing his part to save it. [As] Manning stood in front of a ballroom full of the NFL's best players (30 of whom, as he pointed out, are at the game for the first time), Manning wasn't just being funny during this welcome meeting. He also had a very sharp message. "The past two years, the play in this game has been unacceptable," Manning said. "If it was a walkthrough, your coach would say it was a bad walkthrough. And that's why (the league) could try to cancel this game." ... Commissioner Roger Goodell has made it clear that the current quality of the game doesn't meet the league's standard, and a rewarding week enjoyed by the NFL's best players is in jeopardy.

he's just playing it up for the cameras....he can say all of that and still know that no one is going to try...he comes off like the ONE guy that wanted to play hard...image manufacturing at it's best

Yeah but at least he isnt a punk like Brady who backs out just because hes a sore LOSER. Undisclosed injury....must be a (lack of) spinal injury or a vaginal strain courtesy of the Ravens.

Why should a player risk a career ending injury for a game that means nothing and is hardly watched. Cancel the game and instead have some fun activities - passing, kicking, running, .. competitions. That I may watch. I am 54 and have watched 0 minutes of the pro bowl.

Love him or hate him...doesnt matter. Just get used to seeing his face on TV for the next 10-15 years while he bags enough coin to buy the spot in the oval office.

Simple solution to the pro bowl....winning team gets 1M (each) for the "W" and the losing team gets thier hotel and flight paid for and that is it. Tell me they wouldnt try under those circumstances! You might still have the Brady punks pull out..but the ones who would show...would play!

Interesting, but would need to be part of a new CBA, specifically do the payments count against the cap like other bonuses do - like those paid to players that get named to the pro bowl (if in their contract).

I knda believe manning is fine with one ring to wear on his middle finger (for his critics) and focus on building his post playing career / portfollio. Hate to tell you boys....99.9% of the NFL players care more about the $$$ than they do about superbowl rings. The rings don't pay the bills and the private islands post retirement. If you think the players and owners care about the fans...I have some swampland to sell you. The NFL is a corporate money making machine...nothing more. (imagine the matrix movies...the fans are the humans asleep in the machine = NFL) Anyway, lets keep the message boards rolling and the money to the NFL flowing!

Manning chose the Broncos because they made the playoffs with Tebow. He wants another ring or two. Yes many players want the $ first, but a lot want the SB.

I know...I can be a buzkill. I just keep having this dream where I'm in the wizard of oz movie and I defeat the bad witch (Bellicheat) and open the NFL curtain to find Mr. Kraft! I am actually blown away that the Pats were not helped more in the AFC championship game. The dropped passes by Welker hurt them again this time. I know I'm way off topic, but what the heck...better topic than the Blow Bowl.

I don't disagree that he wanted a winner....only good business sence (cue Pappa John). Better market visibility. If Manning doesn't win another ring (an I thought this year was his best chance)...I don't think he losses a single nights sleep over it. I bet he and Tom Brady laugh at the rest of us who spend so much time and energy debating whos better. Sad but true.

Some things should just be left to die on the vine. This game is one of those things. It is the old try of putting lipstick on a pig, still a pig.

you have it backwards...Brady manned up and wouldn't take part in the joke that the pro bowl has become...Manning is acting, like offering help to someone only because you KNOW they'll decline the assistance, he's pretending to want to play hard all while knowing it isn't going to happen....

Replace the pro bowl with a game for all the college kids entering the upcoming draft.

This game should go the way of the Playoff bowl which this year would have been New England vs Atlanta. Nobody watched that either.

I tend to disagree. He has a lot of money and can move into broadcast and continue his endorsements if $ was his real concern. He came back after multiple neck injuries to try and play - risking his long term future health, and possibly life - he reported numbness still. I don't think he would do that unless for the ultimate goal.
